What We Do

As more artists are creating and releasing their own music and the internet is becoming saturated with bands, it is becoming increasingly more difficult for listeners to find quality music and for you to get your music heard.

Bassoctopus aims to use it's internet presence to promote the best music and become recognised as a source of great quality band based music, of all genres.

Our company believes in letting the artists keep control of their own income stream, and by utilising companies such as Amazon, Bandcamp and CD Baby, any income from the release of your music comes straight to you. Bassoctopus is a collective and all artists will need to contribute to the upkeep of this site. However these costs are minimal.

For artists who want to release physical cds, we can provide a record label, release number, barcode and press releases to make sure your music gets heard by the correct people. We have excellent contacts in the CD duplication industry and a proven record of getting quality music products released, reviewed in the international press and sold to the public.

Who We Are

Bassoctopus Records is an independent record company based in the North East of England run by a collective of friends and musicians.

The label was originally set up in 2006 when the band 300ft Gorilla started recording their debut album, Gorilla Tactics. As we looked for record labels to release our material, we quickly realised we actually had all of the skills either within the band or amongst our close friends to do this ourselves to a high standard. All the recording, production, promotion, marketing etc was done within the band, with only the mastering and cd duplication being done by commercially established companies, and the artwork and cd cover layout being commissioned to friends of the band.

This album received excellent reviews including CD of the Month from top recording magazine Sound on Sound and a superb review in Kerrang magazine as well as a host of other international publications and websites.
